Sports Anti-Doping Rules published

26 Apr 2007

Drug Free Sport NZ has released the Sports Anti-Doping Rules 2007, which will come into effect on 1 July. National Sports Organisations are being encouraged to adopt these rules to apply to their members.

The new rules will provide a simple and efficient way for New Zealand’s sport organisations to comply with the World Anti-Doping Code. The rules set out the responsibilities of Drug Free Sport NZ, national sport organisations and the Sports Tribunal in order to combat doping in sport.

The Sports Anti-Doping Rules are not mandatory, and national sporting organisations will need to adopt them formally either through Board resolution or amendments to their constitutions. By adopting the Sports Anti-Doping Rules, national sport organisations will save themselves the work of having to develop and update their own anti-doping policies, and it will be easier for Drug Free Sport NZ to coordinate the national anti-doping programme.

Over the next few months Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) and Drug Free Sport NZ will be encouraging national sport organisations to adopt the Sports Anti-Doping Rules. For information about how sport organisations can adopt the Rules, please contact Andrew.fieldsend@sparc.org.nz. For information about anti-doping and the rules, please contact Drug Free Sport NZ on (09) 521 5706.
