Sir Terry McLean National Sports Journalism Award Winners

New Zealand’s top sports journalists and photographers were recognised at the annual Sir Terry McLean National Sports Journalism Awards held in Auckland tonight.
The Awards, sponsored by SPARC, attracted around 300 past and present media and sporting celebrities. Among the stars were John Walker, Ian Ferguson, Chris Lewis, Allison Roe, John Adshead, Stu Wilson, Chris Lewis, Paul MacDonald, Martin Snedden and Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell.
A record 198 entries were received for the awards and the big prize on the night went to The Herald on Sunday’s Dylan Cleaver, who took out the Emirates Airline Sports Journalist of the Year. Cleaver also won the Steinlager sports feature – newspaper category.
The SPARC Outstanding Contribution to Sport Through Journalism Award went to rugby historian and journalist Lindsay Knight. Three journalists were also made Life Members of the NZSJA – Brent Edwards (Otago Daily Times), Peter Williams (TVNZ), and Bill Francis (The Radio Network).
These are the 25th NZSJA awards, the 11th year under the patronage of SPARC and the fifth year known as the Sir Terry McLean National Sports Journalism Awards.
