Policy at SPARC

SPARC works collaboratively to set strategic direction for the sport and recreation sector and provide advice to the Minister for Sport and Recreation.

The Policy team drives SPARC’s policy programme working with the Sector Development Group to have this programme realised within the sector. This is achieved through:

1.  Policy development including:

  • translating government policies into SPARC business planning and programme design; and
  • advising government on policy matters relating to the sport and recreation sector.
  • Key Policy Projects
    • Outdoor recreation review
    • Anti-doping
    • Children and young people leading healthy lifestyles

 2.  Working across Government including:

  • working with Government departments and agencies to realise the potential that sport and physical recreation offer as a mechanism for achieving Government outcomes;
  • educating and advising other Government departments and agencies about the sport and physical recreation sector; and
  • establishing relationships that lead to cross-government policy that supports SPARC’s mission.

The Policy team produces a regular communication to signal Government policy development that may affect the sport and recreation sector.
