Legislation

There are universal human rights that are internationally recognised.1In New Zealand we have legislation such as the Bill of Rights Act 1990, the Human Rights Act 1993, and the Privacy Act 1993. All of these articulate the rights of disabled people.

We also have the Human Rights Commission, with responsibility for the development of a national plan of action for the promotion and protection of Human Rights in New Zealand.

1.Universal Declaration on Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNROC) (1989).
