Wellington City Council - Talent Development Programme

Talent development through a partnership model

The WCC Talent Development Programme focuses on supporting individual sportspeople through partnerships. Applications must be aligned to a national sports organisation (NSO) and/or regional sports organisation (RSO). Hence, programme funding supports the sportsperson in the context of their club and their sport more generally.

This model is distinctive. Other approaches locate and develop sports talent through general testing, or cherry picking existing talented individuals (in these approaches there is often not much of a legacy left for the sport).

SPARC looks to help emerging sportspeople via partnerships with their sporting organisations at a local, regional and national level and has a national directive which sits above all these areas. For more information on SPARC’s approach to talent development.
