Way2Go – enabling active choices in Nelson/Tasman: Way2Go partnerships and project funding
Way2Go partnerships and project funding
Way2Go go is a partnership between:
- Tasman District Council
- Nelson City Council
- Sport Tasman
- Nelson Bays Primary Health Be Well/Piki Te Ora (local Primary Health Organisation - PHO)
- Nelson Marlborough District Health Board – Nutrition & Physical Activity Project (DHB-NPA)
- Canterbury Community Trust (a funding partner)
- SPARC (initial investing partner).
The partners work together to manage the project through a Steering Group. From the perspective of local government and the regional health organisations, Way2Go’s focus on connecting with local people, strengthening community networks, utilising existing facilities and community initiatives, has been very positive.
Way2Go began in 2005 with three-year seed funding from SPARC, to the value of $285,000 (ceasing in September 2008). The Tasman District Council and the Nelson City Council have contributed funding to the hubs, events, promotion of programmes and the production of the walking/cycling brochures, amounting to in excess of $300,000 over three years. The success of the project in the community, and the evolution in the working relationships between the project partners, has meant the project has received ongoing investment, mainly from the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (DHB), with investment support for the coordinators’ role and $20,000 per annum for Way2Go initiatives.
