Waitakere - A case study in relationship building

Shared Project – Active Waitakere

Active Waitakere is a collaborative project aimed at enriching the lives of the residents of Waitakere through increasing levels of participation in physical activity.

The partnership involves a range of 15 local organisations including Sport Waitakere, WCC, Waitemata District Health Board, and Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust.

Having these organisations work together to prioritise areas of need, and collectively advocating physical activity in Waitakere have been key steps to delivering better services.

WCC and Sport Waitakere together have been instrumental in moving this project forward since its inception in 2006.

Shared project – Sports Club Taskforce

Another key project has been the Sports Club Taskforce. The taskforce is a collaborative group made up of members of SW, and WCC’s Leisure Services and Park Assets units. The taskforce works with sports clubs and the community to develop dynamic, co-ordinated and and sustainable networks of high quality family friendly clubs across Waitakere, who provide sporting and social opportunities for all.
