Tauranga - City On Its Feet Programme

Partners

Partnerships are a key part of City On Its Feet. The Recreation Relationships Manager at Tauranga City Council (TCC) oversees the project. TCC also manages the funding and reporting for the project, while the operational aspects of the project are handled by Sport Bay of Plenty (Sport BOP). It is Sport BOP’s responsibility to employ and manage the project co-ordinators.

Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC), Bay of Plenty District Health Board (BOPDHB), TCC, Sport BOP, and Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) all support City On Its Feet.

Targets and Objectives

The broad aims of City On Its Feet are: more people enjoying walking more often, community-wide campaigns, social support networks, individually adapted behaviour change programmes.

City On Its Feet - Project Outcomes:
  • Healthier older people
  • Healthier parents with young children
  • More people walking for physical activity
  • Community awareness of the benefits of walking.
Measurement of project outcomes

The City On Its Feet perception survey is a bi-annual survey that talks to people who are involved in City On Its Feet, plus a sample from the general public.

The City On Its Feet survey identifies areas of success and potential improvement for the programme. The survey provides a point of reference for future planning, for example, identifying what it is that people value about COIF groups.

The survey also assists in guiding strategic decisions around marketing the programme, which ensures resources are managed as effectively as possible. For example, the most recent survey showed that 75% of the public was aware of the programme and identified radio and word of mouth as key marketing tools. As a result of these findings, marketing has been tailored to maximise effectiveness and reduce cost.
