Sports House in the Taranaki – a model for regional sporting development

Benefits and spinoffs

A stronger Regional Sports Trust and regional collaboration

One of the benefits arising from the Sports House project has been a significant change in public perception of Sport Taranaki as a driver for regional development. Sport Taranaki – and regional sports organisations – now enjoy a higher public profile.

Sport Taranaki also has stronger partnerships, not only with many more RSOs with whom they share Sports House, but also with key regional organisations such as the Taranaki District Health Board and Venture Taranaki, three Territorial Authorities, and with the many sports and community organisations who visit Sports House to use meeting rooms or services.

Sport Taranaki becomes an advocate

Sport Taranaki continues to support the delivery of sport & recreation by schools, clubs and RSOs to the Taranaki community. However, as the organisation has matured, Sport Taranaki has also become an advocate for physical activity in the community. The Sports House project has demonstrated what can be achieved when all the key players co-operate – councils, sports organisations and investors – and how together these contributors can achieve what none of them could do alone.
