Sports House in the Taranaki – a model for regional sporting development

Introduction

Sport Taranaki was operating from an aging base at the old Barrett Street Complex which lacked any sort of shop frontage. Today Sport Taranaki is based in a new Sports House, which is also home to seven regional sports organisations (RSOs), located at Yarrow Stadium, Taranaki’s premier outdoor sporting venue.

Sports House – and the partnerships behind it – has been successful in delivering quality services to a proud Taranaki community. The Sports House development was completed in 2007, on schedule and with minimal debt.

This case study looks at some of the key steps to developing a Sports House and building sport successfully in the Taranaki region.
