You get what you need to perform

Performance
  • Assistance in identifying what will achieve the greatest performance gains from your carded athletes.
  • One-on-one access to specialists who can support your own performance needs (with budget approval from NZAS).
  • Improve your time available to coach with likely first priority for a Coach Performance Enhancement Grant (where applicable).
  • Likely first priority to borrow and be trained in NZAS technology and equipment.
  • Access to coach-friendly, cutting-edge research along with assistance to implement new ideas.
  • Support to ensure everyone is clear on your role and accountabilities.
Development
  • A process of collecting feedback to enhance your coaching performance.
  • Generous financial assistance to learn from the best in NZ and around the globe - you set the project!
  • Immediate feedback with one-on-one access to discuss coaching effectiveness with Coach Performance Advisor (approximately 50-100 hours per annum).
  • Learn the foundations of world class coaching through the six Critical Performance Modules.
  • Test your thinking with coaches of other sports during NZAS seminars and networking opportunities.
  • Leaders are readers! Free (or low cost) access to books and articles from around the world.
Open to

Approximately 45 coaches.

Entry criteria
  1. Identified in the NSO’s 2012 or 2016 high performance / coaching plan or selected to the Coach Accelerator.
  2. Be deemed a capable1 or high potential coach by the NSO and SPARC and NZAS.
  3. Committed to upholding your end of the bargain (below).
  4. Programme plan for carded athletes.
  5. Up-to-date position description and performance targets set with NSO.
  6. Formal performance appraisal scheduled within the next 12 months.

Prioritisation will be based on the current or projected Pinnacle Event performances of the coach’s athlete(s).

Entry process
  • Entry is by negotiation between the NSO and SPARC (in consultation with NZAS Coach Performance Team).
  • The NSO will notify successful coaches.
  • The coach will begin the programme once a carded coach agreement is signed and returned to SPARC.
Your end of the bargain
  1. Sign a carded coach agreement & SPARC Coaches’ Code of Ethics with SPARC & NZAS.
  2. Actively engage in the Coach Performance Programme.
  3. Active participation in a performance and development review process agreed with NZAS Coach Performance Team (e.g. the Coach Development Survey) at least every 12 months.
  4. Six-month performance and development checks.
  5. Do everything you can to achieve performance and development targets.
  6. Complete all Critical Performance Modules within three years unless otherwise agreed with NZAS.

1 Defined as the ability to fulfil all the requirements of the role. Coaches must be working with world class athletes.

Open to

Approximately 70 ‘campaign’ coaches / coaches who produce or support carded athletes.

Entry criteria
  1. Currently working in the NSO’s high performance programme.
  2. Will impact world class athlete performances.
  3. Committed to meeting your end of the bargain (below).

Prioritisation will be based on the current or projected Pinnacle Event performances of the coach’s athlete(s).
