Expanding the Green Prescription programme
Green Prescription (GRx) and GRx Active Families are being expanded under the Mission-On initiative to allow more New Zealanders to benefit from these services.
The expansion will move GRx from a small “boutique” programme to one that has the infrastructure and capacity to service up to 50,000 patients and 500 families per year by 2010. Increased access to GRx services are particularly important to improve the health of Maori and Pacific peoples.
An expansion project led by SPARC is currently underway to improve the current GRx and GRx Active Families infrastructure. The project is focusing on five main areas of development:
- Improving GRx information systems
A new and improved nationwide GRx and GRx Active Families information system is currently in development. The focus is on making the process of patient referral much more efficient. - Focusing on the needs of Maori and Pacific communities
Delivering on the needs of whanau, Maori and Pacific communities is a key priority for the expansion project and is a focus across each area of development. - Developing an effective GRx structure
The structure of the GRx initiative is being evaluated to ensure GRx is delivered in the most effective way to the community and its target populations. - Improving public awareness
Public awareness campaigns, specifically aimed at target communities, will be put into action once the improved GRx infrastructure is in place. - Developing an accreditation framework
Development of an accreditation framework is currently underway to ensure high quality and consistent delivery of GRx and GRx Active families throughout New Zealand.
