Baton Relay

Work up an Olympic-sized sweat racing your mates in this Push Play version of an athletics favourite.

Stuff you'll need:
  • Lots of space - your local park or playground is perfect.
  • Some mates.
  • Some batons - paper towel rolls are great, or try a rolled up
magazine with a rubber band around it.
  • Some obstacles - the slides and other playground items work
well, or you can use your imagination and make your own.
How to run your race:
  1. Decide on a big circular course with obstacles for you to
jump over, duck under or zigzag around.
  2. Get two teams of friends together, with one person from
each team holding a baton and ready to go at the start. Other team members stand in pairs (one from each team)
    around the course.
  3. The first two people run off and make their way through
some obstacles towards the second runners. When they
reach them the baton is passed and the new runners take
off to the next people, and so on. The team that wins is the
one whose final runner reaches the start/finish line first.
