Patsy, Mary, Pat

When it comes to exercising, the fun-factor has to be top of the list and there's no shortage of it at Beachside Health Club in Browns Bay where GRx participants Patsy, Mary and Pat attend weekly exercise sessions with around 30 other men and women of all ages, shapes and abilities.

Their reasons for attending are different but when it comes to talking about the benefits, the responses are positively similar!

• Pat feels better about herself, has more energy and says she's a much happier person.
• Mary puts her new love of exercise down to belonging to the group and the support of genuinely caring staff at Beachside.
• Patsy, the newest member, is already making friends and enjoying a sense of achievement as she improves a little each week.

'The instructors encourage us to work had but at our own pace and it's OK to have a rest,' says Patsy.

Jayne and Peter White, owners of Beachside Health Club, have been making a special effort to cater for people with heart conditions since the conception of Beachside Cardiac Club in 2000. These days, their highly qualified, enthusiastic and professional instructors are trained to provide a number of options for people with a variety of medical conditions.

• Fitness centres play a vital role in decreasing the burden of lifestyle in disease as well as getting potential members through their doors.

Gaylene Leabourn, GRx Patient Support Person at Harbour Sport, hopes other North Shore fitness centres will follow suit and ensure they are offering affordable and appropriate options for people on Green Prescriptions.

'Some people just need a little extra help to get started and then they're away,' she says.
