Overview

The Sportfit programme encourages 13 to 18 year olds to be physically active throughout their lives.

SPARC invests in more than 400 sport and physical activity coordinators. These people are based in New Zealand secondary schools and work with students, teachers and communities to increase opportunities for participation in sport and physical activity.

Best practice review

SPARC recently undertook a review of sport and physical activity interventions for young people.

SPARC commissioned the work to help inform our decision making around policies and programmes for 13-18 year olds (and to help inform the decisions of our partners in the sport and recreation sector). Research such as this can help guide innovative programme development, enhanced service provision, coordinated delivery and - ultimately - increased participation in sport and physical activity by young people. While the reports have helped inform some of our recent decision making, SPARC does not necessarily agree with all of the findings or recommendations.  In addition, SPARC would like to better understand some of the evidence that the report draws from.  SPARC have therefore decided the information in the report does not warrant significant changes to be made to the Sportfit program in the short term. SPARC will review this position after further research has been undertaken in this area. The reports are published for our sector partners to draw from the material what they wish.

The summary reports from the best practice review are.
