Members of the New Zealand Himalayan Big Wall Expedition have just airmailed off 200kgs of mountain food and equipment ahead of their trip to the Charakusa Valley in northern Pakistan. The four-man team leaves for Pakistan in two weeks.

The team’s aim is a significant new route on Nafees Spire of K7 in the Karakorum. The Pakistan High Commission only gave the group a one-month visa which they are having to sort out now – the climbers plan to spend about six weeks at or above base camp at 4400m. But otherwise everything is going to plan, says expedition spokesman Bruce Dowrick.
