Vision and mission

Our SPARC Strategic Plan 2009-2015 and Statement of Intent 2009-2012 set out how we will work with the sport and physical recreation sector and with the rest of Government to realise our vision.

SPARC would like to see all sport and physical recreation organisations operating effectively, individually and collectively, as part of a sport and physical recreation system that achieves outcomes that matter to New Zealanders.

Our vision and mission

SPARC’s vision for New Zealand is:

Everyone. Every day. Enjoying and excelling through sport and recreation.

To realise this vision SPARC’s mission is to create a sport and recreation environment where there are:

  • More Kiwi kids in sport and recreation
    • More Kiwis in sport and recreation
    • More Kiwi winners on the world stage

Our vision and mission were agreed by the SPARC Board in 2009. These include subtle but important changes to SPARC's previous direction. In particular:

    • a renewed focus on sport and recreation
    • a focus on youth – generational change
    • an emphasis on schools as a setting for sport and recreation
    • more emphasis on grassroots sport – clubs and Regional Sports Organisations
    • more resources towards high performance talent development – the next generation.
