Vision and mission

Our SPARC Statement of Intent 2008-11 (PDF, 876KB) sets out how we will work with the sport and physical recreation sector and with the rest of Government to realise this vision.

Girl sailing.

SPARC would like to see all sport and physical recreation organisations operating effectively, individually and collectively, as part of a sport and physical recreation system that achieves outcomes that matter to New Zealanders.

Our vision and mission
A vision is the pinnacle outcome that we are working to achieve. SPARC’s vision for New Zealand is:

a nation inspired to be active, participate and win.

To realise this vision SPARC’s mission is to foster an environment where:

  • more New Zealanders will be physically active in sport and recreation;
  • more New Zealanders will participate in supporting and delivering sport and recreation; and
  • more New Zealanders will win on the world stage.

Our vision and mission were agreed by the Board in 2006/07. They include subtle but important changes to the previous vision and mission. Our vision captures our dedication to fostering a sport and recreation environment that inspires all New Zealanders to be:

  • physically active – for enjoyment, confidence, productivity and health
  • participating - whether physically participating in sport and recreation or as a caregiver supporting a child’s involvement, a coach, an official, a volunteer, etc
  • performing and winning in sport and recreation, both locally and internationally.

SPARC’s primary focus for 2008-09 and onwards will be placed on physical recreation and sport, rather than the wider sphere of physical activity.
