SPARC Welcomes Work-Life Balance Report
12 Jul 2004
A new report on Kiwi's attitudes to work-life balance reveals that many consider recreation and leisure time very important but work commitments can get in the way.
Released today by the Minister of Labour, Achieving Balanced Lives and Employment - what New Zealanders are saying about work-life balance, has been welcomed by SPARC.
"SPARC's research shows that over 50% of New Zealanders would like to spend more time being physically active, so initiatives that support a work-life balance are really important," says Nick Hill, SPARC CE.
"SPARC's message is that everyone can Push Play and incorporate some physical activity into their working day with a little thought. Take the stairs instead of the lift; walk to talk to your colleagues instead of sending an email; or park a few blocks away from work and walk the rest of the way."
But employers have an important and rewarding role to play in encouraging physical activity and a work-life balance too, says Hill.
"Employers who encourage physical activity in the workplace not only contribute to the wellbeing and health of their employees, they are also benefiting their businesses by creating a more productive and better performing workforce."
SPARC has established an Active Workplaces scheme to assist employers, human resource managers and anybody wanting to promote health and fitness programmes in the work environment.
