National Push Play Day's Here Again
4 Nov 2004
"Get out, get active and have fun" is the call for this year's National Push Play Day being celebrated on Friday, 5 November.
In its fourth year, Push Play Day is the annual day SPARC and its partners across the country celebrate physical activity and encourage people to lead active healthy lives.
"Push Play Day is a call to action to the one in three New Zealanders that aren't getting the benefits of regular physical activity," says Deb Hurdle, General Manager Participation SPARC.
"SPARC's message is that everyone should aim for a least 30 minutes moderate intensity physical activity a day. Push Play Day is about raising awareness of this and reminding people that being active is fun. "
Ex-All Black and New Zealand Sevens captain Dallas Seymour will be playing with his kids for Push Play Day. "I get great enjoyment from being physically active - kei te koa te ngakau ki te kori tinana. I think it's good for the soul as well as the body. It's something I love doing with my tamariki - they love getting active with Mum and Dad -and it also helps the whanau and I to enjoy our wonderful Aotearoa New Zealand environment."
2003 World Mountain Running Champion Melissa Moon says, "As a teacher I'm very concerned about the drop off of activity in kids today compared with my generation. The more we can encourage kids and adults to be active and learn to love activity the better. It's a lifestyle change we all need to make. "
Regional Sports Trusts, Territorial Authorities and other organisations nationwide are organising Push Play events to mark the day.
